Alachua County Landfill & Gainesville Dump Guide
Gainesville has no single "dump" that takes everything. Household trash, yard waste, tires and appliances go to the county's Leveda Brown Environmental Park or one of five free Rural Collection Centers. Construction and remodeling debris goes somewhere else entirely. We haul to Gainesville-area disposal sites every week, so here's a plain guide to which one takes what, when they're open and what it costs. Hours and fees are from Alachua County's website as of October 2026. Looking for the Alachua County landfill? The county closed its Southwest Landfill in 1998; household trash now goes through Leveda Brown and is trucked to the New River Regional Landfill in Raiford.
| What you're getting rid of | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| Bagged household trash (residents, up to a truck bed a day) | Rural Collection Centers, free |
| Larger loads of household trash | Leveda Brown, $65/ton |
| Yard waste: leaves, brush, small limbs | Rural Collection Centers or Leveda Brown |
| Washers, dryers, stoves, grills, bikes | Rural Collection Centers (bulk metal) |
| Refrigerators, AC units, dehumidifiers | Leveda Brown only, $25 each |
| Tires | Leveda Brown, $3 each (car/light truck) |
| Paint, oil, batteries, electronics | Rural Collection Centers (household hazardous waste) |
| Drywall, lumber, shingles, flooring, demolition debris | A C&D facility, not the county sites |
| A whole remodel, roof or cleanout | A roll-off dumpster, so you make zero trips |
Leveda Brown Environmental Park & Transfer Station
This is Alachua County's main disposal site, on the northeast side of Gainesville off Waldo Road. It's where most household trash in the county ends up, and the place to take anything the rural centers won't.

Fees
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| Household garbage | $65 per ton |
| Appliances and scrap metal (no refrigerant) | $65 per ton |
| Refrigerators, freezers, AC units (refrigerant) | $25 each |
| Car and light truck tires (fewer than 3, or mixed loads) | $3 each |
| Truck tires 17" and up (fewer than 3, or mixed loads) | $4 each |
| Tires by weight | $140 per ton |

Tips: Sort your load before you go. Recyclables, tires, yard waste, metal and hazardous materials go in separate areas, and a mixed load can cost an extra $100. Cover and tie down your load; an uncovered load can get you a littering fine.

Where to Take Construction and Demolition Debris
Drywall, lumber, shingles, flooring, cabinets, concrete and other remodeling debris can't go to the Rural Collection Centers, and Leveda Brown only takes it from licensed haulers, not the public. If you're hauling it yourself, it goes to one of two private C&D facilities.
Gainesville Green (formerly Florence Recycling)
Address: 3222 SE Hawthorne Rd, Gainesville, FL 32641
Phone: 352-375-5189
Takes: construction and remodeling debris only, no household trash. Now owned by Waste Pro; many locals still call it Florence.
Hours: weekdays; call ahead to confirm current hours and rates
Watson C&D Landfill
Address: 20103 SW Archer Rd, just before the Levy County line
Phone: scale house 352-495-9520 (best for hours and what's accepted), main office 352-495-9449
Takes: construction and demolition debris only
Pricing: by the cubic yard rather than by weight, which helps with heavy loads like concrete, roofing or tile
Hours: weekdays, closed weekends; call ahead to confirm
Good to know: both sites take C&D only, so a load mixed with household trash may be turned away or charged extra. Separate your load before you go.
Alachua County Rural Collection Centers (Free for Residents)
For everyday household trash and recycling, the county's five Rural Collection Centers are free to Alachua County residents. They're the closest option for most people in High Springs, Alachua, Archer and the outskirts of Gainesville
Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, 7:30am to 5:30pm. The Alachua / High Springs center is also open Wednesday and Thursday from 12:30pm to 5:30pm. All five are closed Sundays and on county holidays.
What you can bring: bagged household trash, recycling, yard waste (leaves, grass, brush and small limbs, with bags removed), bulk metal such as washers, dryers, stoves, grills and bikes, and household hazardous waste such as batteries, electronics, oil filters, and up to 5 gallons a day of used oil and paint. Each center also has a Reuse Area where residents can take gently used items for free.
What you can't bring: commercial waste, refrigerators, AC units, dehumidifiers, sheds, or construction debris such as lumber, boards, fencing and pallets.
Limits: one visit a day to one center, and one level pickup-truck bed of material per day.

When a Dumpster Beats a Trip to the Dump
A level pickup bed holds about 2 cubic yards. That's fine for a few bags or an old grill, but a kitchen remodel or roof tear-off fills 15 to 20 yards. That's 8 to 10 trips, often split between Leveda Brown for trash and a C&D site for the debris, with each site's own hours, sorting rules and fees.
A roll-off dumpster turns that into zero trips. We drop it in your driveway, you fill it over 7 days with trash and debris together, and we haul it to the right facility.
| Size | Flat price, 7 days | Weight included | About the same as |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 yard | $400 | 2 tons | 6 pickup loads |
| 15 yard | $425 | 2 tons | 7 to 8 pickup loads |
| 20 yard | $525 | 3 tons | 10 pickup loads |
| 30 yard | $725 | 4 tons | 15 pickup loads |
